Did you know that your Outlook Express v 5+ program can help you create beautiful, original, e cards and E-mail messages that are formatted like web pages?

Once you learn how to use this wonderful feature, you'll say goodbye to e-card shops!  Why use someone else's ideas, when you can create your OWN?

I feel that it's only fair to post a !  WARNING  ! here.  Once you experience the satisfaction of seeing your creations come to life, you'll find yourself spending HOURS and HOURS surfing and searching for just the right graphics, backgrounds, sounds, and cute images to decorate your new "pretties".

I hope the format of this tutorial will make it simple and easy to understand.  This is not a complicated technique, but it can be confusing if you've never attempted it.

E-mail doesn't have to be boring!  So let's get started!!

There are a few groundrules that we need to cover about E-mail created in HTML/Rich Text.  For those of you that already know this, please bear with me, or just skip on to PART ONE.

If you use Outlook Express v 5+, you can create Rich Text E-mail that will be very enjoyable to others (and to YOU).  But there IS a catch.  If the person you send this to does NOT have their mail program set to receive in HTML/Rich Text, or they don't have a mail program that supports HTML/Rich Text, then they will NOT see what you send.

It would be a good idea to verify that your settings are correct for sending HTML/Rich Text E-Mail.  Open your Outlook Express v 5+ program.  Go to TOOLS and select Options, then the Send tab.  Look about mid point of the window that opens, and make sure that under Mail sending format, that HTML (Rich Text) is checked.  Click on the HTML Settings button there.  When the HTML settings window opens, verify that you have Quoted Printable selected (it's default on mine), and that the option to "Send pictures with messages" is checked.  Click OK, then Apply on the Options window, then OK.

NOTE: Another thought about Rich Text E-Mail.  If you use a lot of graphics, and sounds, it can make for a very BIG file.  Keep this in mind when you're designing your creations.  The recipients will be very appreciative if they don't get a message from you that is over a MB in size!!!  Some mail programs will not accept overlarge files.  If you're in doubt, ASK! before sending.
